Town climbed to 12th in the table after completing the Christmas league programme with a 4-1 home win over Millwall in torrential rain. Tommy Miller put Town ahead before Steven Reid put the Lions back on terms. However, Jermaine Wright, Marcus Bent and Miller again completed the victory.

Town manager Joe Royle claimed his Town team have played better and lost recently after his side's dramatic late comeback at Leicester City. Royle pointed to the recent home game against Rotherham which the Blues dominated but somehow lost.

A dramatic last eight minutes at the Walker's Stadium saw Town come from behind to beat Leicester 2-1. The Foxes had gone ahead earlier in the second half via an inexplicable penalty converted by Paul Dickov. Thomas Gaardsøe and Darren Ambrose grabbed the goals as justice was ultimately done.

An entertaining game at a foggy Fratton Park ended 1-1 after Pompey went one-up in the first half through Svetoslav Todorov before Thomas Gaardsøe headed an equaliser in the second period. Town did well enough to win the game a plethora of chances were wasted, particularly by Pablo Couñago while Chris Makin saw a red card late on.

Town picked up their first double of season with a 4-2 win against Watford at Portman Road. Two excellent first half goals from Tommy Miller and Richard Naylor put the Blues in the driving seat but a Tommy Smith goal gave Watford a second half lifeline.

Town defender John McGreal looks like he will be on the sidelines for some while after picking up a knee injury during Town's 1-1 draw at Brighton. The Liverpool-born defender was injured in a challenge early on during the first half.

A Jim Magilton goal 12 minutes from time gave the Blues a point after Bobby Zamora had put Brighton ahead during a dismal first half for Town. That display was as bad as for some time, while there was a notable improvement in the second period.

Despite having the vast majority of the game and creating far more chances, Town once again dropped three points at home. Rotherham came with a physical and gritty approach but more individual errors, this time from skipper Matt Holland, gifted the Millers two goals.
